General question : I've seen these ships referred to as 'flush deckers'. anyone tell me why?

Because the deck is flush (one continuous line) from stem to stern. Later U.S. destroyers had a raised forecastle.

The WWI-era four-stack destroyers were also known as 1,000-tonners because the standard displacement was around 1,000 tons.

Thanks Don. One of the great stories to me on these old 'flush deckers' is HMS Campbeltown's (ex USS Buchanan) role in the St.Nazaire raid in 1942.

Thanks to CMDRTED who pointed me to a fascinating website on Destroyer Escorts. Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, Albany, NY Provides a lot of detail for a landlubber who knows next to nothing about all the detail in this kit. To me it was interesting to discover what a lot of this gear is for.

Now almost down to the masts and rigging.

Ahoy, Matey! Good start! With your skill at 1:100 planes (which elude my meager talents} I think you should easily sail through the entire JSC fleet.
