Nice work Mike, I'm needing to make a similar case, the dust really shows up quickly doesn't it? Too visible on thread lines where it's hard to get off..

Absolutely. Trying to blow off the dust causes extensive "wind" damage.

Yes I am, but I am only posting on Facebook. I am building a package freighter, Hudson, from scratch, and finishing my Orel Potemkin.

The ship looks really beautiful, and snug in its display case.

09 – Bow Upper Hull

Thank You Friends.

The first image picks up where the previous work left off. After cleanup work, the stern now has its proper waterline.

So work switched to the bow. The photos show the steps to connect the upper plates to the lower hull. The waterline looks correct.

The historic image shows what this area of the ship should look like. Later, the bow decoration, anchor(s) and side mounted gun casemate will be added.

Regards,
Mike

Good morning Mike!

As usual, a very clean and precise work. Can't wait to see that bow crest in your model.

Best regards

Ed

Thanks Ed.
Included in these images are 3 showing some of the work on the bow crest.

But first: work with the upper hull is nearing completion. The center sections are armored. So they are made with card to reflect the added thickness. As the images show, the starboard side is finished, with the port side still underway.

Regarding the bow crest: That began with the historic image (062) seen in my last post. The image was imported into SketchUp. Then quite a bit of time was spent drawing the outlines. The images were then printed onto colored 28lb paper. The fine delicate cutting was done with a (very small) punch and by hand. To give it a 3D appearance, part of the center section of the brass colored décor was carved out to attach/glue over top of the primary piece (after giving it some slight curvature). That can be seen in the upper right of the final photo. Next update I hope to have it attached to the bow, so we can see how it turned out.

Regards,
Mike
