Thanks so much Don.

Hello Paper Fan: The intakes or “bowls” of the ventilators are made of wood. I turn a dowel in a drill while I hollow out and shape the bowl with a dremel. I spent quite a bit of time working on paper versions of them. But I failed to get something that would pass inspection. My backup material of choice is always wood.

They certainly didn't have us modelers in mind when they designed those things.

Ive 3d printed some generic lattice masts and will be designing some for my South Carolina once I decide on the scale. If you've got some references that show the details, I could sketch up some for the Connecticut.

Hello Xanthar:
Thanks for the offer, but since Connecticut will have her original masts as commissioned, I won't need any "lattice" masts.
However, it would be terrific to see your South Carolina, and your 3D lattice masts. May I suggest 1/250 scale for your ship?

27 – Funnels

Good Morning Craftworkers:

I decided to manufacture all the remaining railing needed for the duration of this project. So the first image shows about 4 feet of railing.

With that finished, I resumed work with the funnels, ventilators and steam pipes. Most of the parts are paper. Parts of the assemblies at the bases of the funnels are card, and the bowls of the ventilators are balsa.

Finally, it seemed a good time to present an overview of the project.

Kind Regards,
Mike

Oh, that is absolutely exquisite, Michael! I am in awe of your ability to produce apparently seamless components from rolled and folded paper.
