Yes, in some respects. Perhaps the installation is not as difficult.
However, the paper rigging must be manufactured, whereas thread is purchased ready to go.

32 – Masts and Anchor Hoists

I hope those in the U.S. enjoyed the holiday. It gave me some extra time to bring the rigging on the stern mast in line with the forward mast.

After that, I went to the bow and began work with the anchor hoists. Almost every pre-dreadnought battleship I have built has one or two anchor hoists. And they differ widely in their design characteristics. Photo 228 shows the initial appearance after assembling the first one. I realized I could squeeze more detail into them, so photo 229 shows both hoists with some additions. Much better I think.

The historic image (from Navsource) shows the mass of steel and cables I was trying to replicate.
This hoist is aboard the U.S.S. Maine BB10. However, the photos show little change in the hoists through the Main Class, Virginia Class and Connecticut Class battleships. So this photo served well as a guide.

Best Regards,
Mike

Very precise work on the mainmast. The model anchor hoists replicate the originals perfectly.

Thanks Don. I use your positive comments as motivation when I dive into those tough assemblies.

Thanks, and you are right. They most resemble the ones on Massena.

33 – Forward Railing, Davits and Boats

Thank you all for the kind remarks.

Since the last update: Added forward railing (paper), ventilators (paper and wood), searchlights (paper), davit mountings (card), 25ft boats with oars (card and paper), and davits with rigging (paper).

The davits were “wet” rolled, then placed into a form to dry with the proper curve.

Best Regards,
Mike
