Newbie question: where did you get this kit? The build looks beautiful!

Hey Bill, Just looked, photos are all there.

I bought the kit and laser cut parts through amazon US. Fentens is the fulfillment agent. They keep a limited US stock, that is if you’re in the US that is.

Otherwise, I’m sure Fentens propers can take care of you. The whole thing was around $110 US iirc

Anyway, I’ll have an update sometime today. It’s back to bollards!

Thanks! I live in Groton, Connecticut, USA. I had started the JSC SMS Goeben that I had scaled down to 1/350 but ran into trouble with the casemates for the secondary weaponry and I put the model away after I got ill. I now wish to restart where I left off and am looking for other builds of WWI German capital ships for inspiration.

Building casemates can be tricky. The parts are very oddly shaped with many folds that have to be absolutely perfect. It took me 2 weeks to get mine finished on Baden, but going slowly and working without compromise will pay off in the end.

One thing I love about card models is that there is no room for compromise. One shortcut and you’re off-square or something will be out of alignment later.

This is why I love the craftsmanesque style of card models, the ships four anchors span 60 parts alone.

That's looking great (as expected).

BTW I think you posted a picture of some deck bollards from this model on my Emden thread, it doesn't appear on this thread though?

Slowly chugging away on the turrets. Progress slowed a bit, but the shipyard is back to full-tilt now.

I finished the base. I decided a piece of hand-planed spalted Ash would do nicely. The ship’s letters have been added to the display base and I’ll photograph those soon.
