Reefer Pica and Sloman Alstertor - 1:250
My double project of the last 15 month:
Being owned by two famous Hamburg shipping lines, the reefer ships and step sisters „Pica“ of Laiesz and „Sloman Alstertor“ of Rob Sloman Lines are to be regarded as particular marvels of this type of vessel and have been among the last pure German„banana boats“. A quartet being build for Laeisz (Pica and her sisters Pekari, Pirol and Persimon) and twins build for Sloman (Sloman Alstertor and Sloman Alsterufer) they displayed despite very different and prominent funnels a lot of other minor distinctions, which illustrate very well evolution patterns in ship building. As a paper model the „Pekari“ of Laeisz has been the first, being published by Passat-Verlag, but suffered from some shortcomings regarding the fit oft he hull. HMV had redone and wiped out the mistakes of the Pekari and with consent of Passat-Verlag and published the „Sloman Alstertor“ a few years later as a kind of new attempt. My build of the Sloman Alstertor is as printed, whereas for the Pica I did some more serious kit-bashing based on the HMV and Passat prints together with some more serious changes with regard to colors and redrawing. Please enjoy the result. From New Delhi, India Michael |

Very nice.
I do not know if it was intentional, but the background showing through the midship portholes in the first picture makes it look like the lights are on in those compartments.

Thank you all for the kind feed back.
@SCEtoAUX: no intention with regard to have light in the midship cabins - rather a reflection of a lamp on high gloss accetate film used for glasing. |
