Thanks Sergio.
I had to check out what does "entablonado" mean but somehow I thought it must be related to wood and looks like I wasn't wrong.

Anyway, here's the finished lower part of the main superstructure.

Taking shape Kacper. No doubt you'll be using the same approach with modelling this ship's aircraft as you did with the USS Maryland?

Yes, the approach will be the same.

After a few months, I've decided to return to this ship.
HMAS Australia is a really difficult project and that's why I abandoned it for quite a long time.

But today I did some work on the superstructures.

The worst thing with the Australia(from 1942 Guadalcanal)is that there're no 100% accurate informations and blueprints. So I have to rely on WWII era photos, which are far from being excellent(sure, you can see the whole cruiser but forget about details!), and blueprints of other County-class cruisers.

drawings

think you've already found out a major difference between the british and australian kent class was the seize of the funnels, the australian ships had higher/larger funnels.......

did do a search on the internet and my hd, have only found these drawings of hmas australia & hmas canberra so far, hope it's usefull for your project. large versions of the drawings in the zip file (actually a rar file, extension changed to zip to allow uploading to this forum)

update: this comes from the instructions for a 1/700 plastic model

some more profiles of hmas canbarra by eric leon.... not the same ship, but again, hopefully usefull for your project

Foute Man, thanks for your interest. I had these drawings and profiles before, so they're not new to me. Mostly I base my model on that instruction from plastic or resin kit you posted. I also examine WWII pictures and then make some changes if I think they're correct.

Anyway, here's the new update. Some more work has been done.

Try this link. There were several photos I hadn't seen before, and I thought I had found all of the pictures available. There are lots of other RAN pictures to sift through, but there are at least 45 pictures of Australia.

after posting those images i realized if i could find them in google, you could have as well. i guess you're right, the focus in a lot of books and articles is on the british county class cruisers and their histories

perhaps the only reliable source of drawings can be found here, there is a pricetag however.....

hmas australia drawings on www.navyhistory.org.au webshop

but something tells me you already know

i'll keep on following your post, as it does inspire me to make plans for my own models.

Thanks a lot for this link, Robert. I've found some great images of the Australia from 1942-1945 period. That's what I needed.

I think I have enough drawings and blueprints so there's no need to get more. But the WWII and post-war photos are always welcome.

Going back to the project, today I continued the main superstructure.
