pasting up some card
The technique i'm using is to copy the plans onto cardstock, then glue the cardstock onto cardboard...i get the cardboard in different thicknesses, so i can adjust to match the size of the parts
I'm cutting out the inner layers of the stem and keel...three layers. The outer two layers will make up the the right size...and only on those layers will i cut out all the pieces. The inner layers are solid. Since there are 3 layers i stagger them to help in gluing up. |

Stagger to match
When you glue up the laminations you have to be straightening with your fingers as you go. The card is very limber, but as you glue on layers it gets a lot stronger
Once the first section is glued up i cut the middle section. Staggering the layers the opposite way. |

card is bendy
Once the cardstock is glued to the board i cut it with a heavy shear. The result is bent by the shearing forces of the cut.
No problem though. You bend it back as you glue. The stem section is inserted onto the middle and glue together. When the whole thing is finished we're ready to start adding the outer two layers...which is where all the fun details will happen. |

Nice technique so far to get the plans onto card.
What do you use to keep the keel straight to avoid making a banana boat? My first boat model needed some ice cream and toppings.

I always enjoy seeing the methodologies other modelers use to construct their models.
This hoy is a trim vessel. Your narrative and the images of your workshop and the model under construction are fascinating. Don |
