LSM a bit more progress

Thanks for stopping by for a look I must admit I did not expect so much interest but then you can't get troops on a beach with a destroyer these really must have the real backbone of the navy.

I have found out why nobody models this often the propellors are semi ducted to keep them out of the way of the beach which is going to cause some interesting stresses on Metasequoia.

Anyway she has progressed a little further.

Bravo!

That's wonderful progress on the LSM Barry. I never thought about the ducted props. That will make for a fun wrinkle when building the underside. Much more interesting than the usual prop and shaft assembly.

jleslie48.... That's a great effort on the little LSM for your father-in-law. The look on his face is priceless. These ships were a true backbone during the island hopping campaign, and they haven't received enough coverage in the commercial kit market. So many sailors served on these in WWII.

I can't wait to build here and the Sherman tank that needs to go in the payload bay for added realism!

Yeah, his ship was LSM 422, as in the 422nd LSM. It didn't even have a name. Meantime he and 80 other guys lived on it for years.

Wonderful story and great photos of the model and the "presentation ceremony." You father-in-law's service is much appreciated and I can't think of a better way of thanking him than by building a model of his ship.

You are making good progress, Barry. I'm still jumping through my watchband in the last week of Second Resident Course teaching, but will be sending you some materials via email this weekend.

Basic structure

Thanks for all the interest some good stories there more to come I think

A bit more progress the still has no prop cutouts and the lower bow could be better.

Needs the outer bow door which protrudes forward of the hull.

This must have been a pig in rough weather.

Thanks for the plan Doug. That's very informative. I haven't seen that one in my searches.

The progress looks good Barry. She's really taking shape. I agree, the LSM must have rode like a bucking horse in rough seas.
