The basal 3 hull planks are carvel-built, but all planks upward are clinker-built.

Here are the hull planks above the main deck, and the protruding ribs. These parts all have to be painted double-sided.

Thanks! The right paint, brushes, and a description of the technique to use come with the kit. After a bit of practice on spare paper, it works well.

Very good job! Nice and clean.

I know, that Shipyard suggests very light colours, but weren't those ships much darker because of tar and some other stuff which were used to protect the wood against water?

Thank you for a a great build log and sharing your wonderful work.

In lieu of painting the hull planks would it be possible to laminate the planks with a wood pattern printed on 20lb/75gm stock? Would the extra thickness create fit issues?

The reason I ask is I was drawn to paper modeling because I really do not paint well, and usually the pattern and color is already printed on the parts so there is little or no painting to be done.
