My first attempt : Black Pearl

Presenting my attempt at making the black pearl paper model for evaluation by this august community.

I found the model on Pinterest. There were no instructions. I have built it by trial and error. The printout was also pretty bad quality as can be seen.

Any comments, criticism are welcome.

Your build is good, but it is hard to judge from the photos which don't give any indication of scale. The kit seems a little crude and pretty cartoonish. Building from intuition is always difficult, but you seem to have pulled it off.

Posts on this forum doesn't get quick replies, I think... No need to worry, people will eventually come.

From what I can see though, you did a good job with it. I think some of the details was not clear enough but that's a printing issue. Might be worth to try a better printer or printing service.

The other thing though, is the waterline. Mind flipping the ship and showing us the waterline in its full glory?

There was one model of Black Pearl that is made from a game rip.
Someone pulls the data from a Disney Video game, and extrapolates a paper model.
These types of models tend to be less detailed, less complicated, and "crude" (as Beard says).

I think this may be that model...not sure.

This is not your fault...your build looks fine.
Its the model that most likely doesn't impress.

Use it as a learning experience...even the worst model can still teach you things.
Then move on to a better version?

Not sure if Disney Experience offers a Pearl, but they do have the Wicked Wench:

And if you are feeling really confident, I'd say try Uhu02's version.
Unfortunately, it looks like it has been removed from collection.

I don't know why...maybe he is updating it?
Not all his kits are in the public domain anymore, and many of his kits are being copied and sold (illegally).
So be careful what you purchase online.

I agree with the others. It's the kit that is crude, and not your workmanship. Keep going.

I said "public domain" which is the wrong choice of words.
I meant "publicly available".

I will have to disagree somewhat here. Said models can also present an overtly and unnecessarily complex construction - it just depends what kind of video game it's pulled from. It doesn't change the conclusion, that these are overall badly designed models, by paper model standards.
