Daihatsu-class landing craft

Hi all,

Just did a quick feasibility design for a landing craft to go with the Akitsumaru in 350th scale. The carrier carried 27 of these along with its complement of aircraft.

It's quite hard to figure out where they might fit on board as the few photos are not very revealing. I can assume therefore that some would have been hung from davits and some below deck.

Just working on how to do this as a kit.

For the landing craft, Akitsu Maru had a slipway in the stern, which was closed with four petal-like doors when unused. However, I don't really know, whether the aircraft and landing craft facilities interfered with each other, nor in which of her configurations the slipway was active...

have you checked the building instructions for any other kit of the akitsu maru???

search result on akitsu maru on japanese model webshop

found an early and a later version of the akitsu maru (with mast at the stern and without)

list of all instruction images click on list all images to view them all, or move your mouse over the thumbnails on top of the page

ayayay, p.....c save the day,

So the planes deck is above the landing craft deck!

Truly a revolutionary ship.

Some LST had flimsy decks to launch planes but not recover, and some had a Brodie System for pilots with nerves of steel.

Thank you for the info.

did continue my search, stumbled upon this website selling 3d printed models of akitsu maru in as she looked in 1942 (middle) and in 1944 (front)
besides the mast at the stern, in 1944 the brigde was moved to starboard (outside the hull) and the flightdeck is wider and shorter.

you can view the models in 3d when clicking on the 3d button

Thank you Foute Man, this is excellent research and has given me lots of ideas to incorporate into my re-design and build.
