NDL Bremen, 1928, Schreiber-Bogen 1/400

So today would be 91 years since Bremen was launched. Not sure I'm doing her justice but...

Started on 4 June. Ran into the same below-the-waterline hull plating issues that user modelperry ran into...and yes it 'looks like poo' to me too. I didn't find out that the instruction 'parts to be assemled in numerical order' wasn't to be strictly adhered to until after I had the above-the-waterline hull plated. Have made some changes too in order to make it appear more true to the prototype: the model's stern has a pretty spoon shape that doesn't match Bremen's coming to a point, the forecastle foreward of the wave break is unplanked, the model misses the structure at the very tip of the bow...

Not to complain, mind you, just things I've noticed. Am concerned now wether C- and B-Decks aft will lay more flatly when I add in the railings etc...right now they are very wavey, unshiplike...not sure if i used too much glue, didnt cut the deckhouses there accurately enough, or some combination. Newbie here☺

Hope all is well by you all. To any and all NDL fans, a very sincere Entschuldigung for what I may have done to the ship, feel a little bit like that well-meaning Spanish lady who ruined a Renaissance painting a few years back...

Welcome and looking forward to your finish model in my favorite scale.

ps: May be one think to learn is to scan your model before you start, just iun case you need extra pieces. Although I prefer the quality of the printed model I usually do the scanned copies, and print them with a specialist (kinkos/staples/etc).

That sounds like a good idea, copying for parts duplication...1/400 seems rather large as most of the model ships I've built have been in 1/600 (plastic).

Schreiber-Bogen, design by Kobierski, R. and Hansen, Alvar per Fenten's catalog. In tiny plastic ship land, photocopying isn't an option so it didn't occur to me, but if I get to the boat davits, I think it will definitely come in handy. Last night was cutting propeller shafts ☺
hope all's well by you all

So, I obsessed for a bit about anchors, the kit version is too narrow, doesn't have the wide shoulders of the original, made 2 additional pairs based off photos, probably hit the limits of my skill level. Also Schrieber-Bogen depicts them dropping straight down out of the hawsepipes, so tried to remedy that, but I think my angle's a little off as well.

Prop shafts bother me: they exit the hull much lower than the prototype. Wish I could have anticpated that, but it was a more subtle boo-boo than Scheiber's non-pointy stern. Also boot topping simply too wide forward and aft, so replaced it with 1mm card, about as thin as I could manage.

A-Deck aft was pretty wonky, think I figgered out what I did wrong, and tried to use the side structures (railing/stanchion parts) to even things out.

Oh, for the next person who does this, Sonnendeck aft is missing the hole for the mainmast socket, and components 121, 121a which aren't on the instruction sheet, appear to be the aft walls of the Wintergarten.
