So, have been at it, got a little hung up on appropriate NDL yellow, Schreiber-Bogen's seemed a little too modern Hapag-Lloyd, period ads, the fact that in B&W they always appeared dark, and finally running into a color movie of Europa seemed to suggest finding something different, ended up with paint chip samples of a mustardy yellow, and cut new funnels to match.
https://youtu.be/RycNwMwgvhA Along the way, have altered the Bridge wing support columns to look more like the prototype, and the boiler uptake casings as well, which, while they are not dead-on accurate to the original, aren't as far away to her appearance as they would be unaltered. Finished one pair of boiler air intakes, lowering Schrieber-Bogen's parts, but still too far away from Bremen's. In any case, hope all is well by you all☺ |

Just trying to find that sweet spot of my reach exceeding my grasp, might have it nailed by the time I get to lifeboats☺

Thank you, considering your Augusta Victoria, I'm honored.
Reworked boiler air intakes again, came up with something a little closer to Bremen and yet it's still admittedly inaccurate. |

So, my inner 9 year old wants her masts up now, but the adult is busy with the small stuff that must be done beforehand.
Added bitts, bollards, capstans, etc where Schreiber-Bogen had only 2d versions, and some missing. Aircraft handling cranes- per kit they are 11mm too far aft, 6 mm too tall, booms for same about 6mm too short, but didn't figger that out until I'd patterned a mustard pair & installed them. Added the light duty crane aft the forward funnel. Turbine room hatches: Schrieber instructions and the photo of the assembled model have them reversed port/starboard, the angled edge should be fwd and outboard; added the large rectangles atop the hatches that appeared after maiden voyage but before the funnels were raised; not sure the purpose, maybe a first attempt at keeping soot from the decks? oh, and the small deckhouses just forward the turbine hatches are rectangular, not the 6-sided structures with the kit. have been refering to a bunch of photos, 2 diagrams...and the shipyard's model for the shiphttps://www.kartonbau.de/forum/werft...un/t23044-f35/. Thickened the davits to be 1mm wide rather than the double layer card which struck me as far too thin. Oh, wacky bit: models of Bremen seem to always depict the searchlights aimed forward, but photos of Bremen, Europa and Columbus generally show them aimed aft, seems to be their normal stowed position. I dinked with those too, used Schreiber's drums & backs, darkened, replaced the mounts with something a wee bit closer, and stuck some foil in the backs of the drums as reflective material. It's far from perfect, but am trying to do as best as possible. |

So today marks 80 years since Bremen last saw the open ocean arriving at Bremerhaven from Murmansk...
If I had simply followed Schreiber Bogen's plan it would be finished already... but the extra effort seems worth it...did 5 copies of the masts - kit ones are too short, by 8 mm if i remember, and the topmost yard at least is too high; got all the main davits done except for the lighter pairs on the aft end of the Promenade deck; have the remaining ventilation equipment to take care of most between the forward funnel & turbine room hatches. Built 7 cargo boom winches using the empty rectangles on the deck as a starting point. Rather glad...not the right word, but nearly... that she and Europa were never weaponized nor suffer the fates of Cap Arcona, Wilhelm Gustloff, or others. hope all is well by you all |
