Hey, the paint job came out great! A bit of extra work but really paid off.

fantastic paint job, didn't know masking on paper would work.

Excellent job there. Well done.

I am glad you have included the Swastikas - the model would just not look the same without them.

Thanks all!

I'd only use thin strips of Tamiya tape (which is fairly low-tack) and remove it very, very carefully when using on paper. I did get a small tear on one edge of the deck on removal, but managed to glue it back down.

Hopefully the foredeck will go well, but the orientation of the chain reinforcements on the stbd side will probably give the illusion the symbol is a bit wonky.

Forgot to mention - the white circle on the rear deck is not printed exactly centrally side-to-side, so a centreline drawn on the deck piece is no use for aligning the symbol on the circle. I'm glad I included a printed outer circle as a double check, otherwise the symbol would have been noticably off-centre, which would have been a disaster.

Foredeck swastika masked and painted. Not as neat as the stern, but really tricky to do, so I think it will have to do.

Now I can get on with completing the hull.

Its really a mammoth task! I'm interested to watch your progress. I see a kit with like 745 parts and I consider that an endeavour!

Thanks for making the build log!

Plenty of small stairway assemblies to forget to fit under the decks before they get fixed in place...

It was all going so well...

Then I tried to fit the decks, and it all went wrong. I’d never glued paper parts of that size before, and the PVA I used screwed the paper; the water in it soaked through and wrinkled the whole lot. Couldn’t live with it so...

It took a surprising amount of physical and emotional effort to fold it up into a bin-sized ball, but there you go. So as of earlier this month, it’s shelf was empty:

I continued cutting hull sides out - part of the grieving process I suppose:

Before buying another - I contacted HMV, who very kindly sent another, which I’ve set about re-building:

I’d almost forgotten about the swastika masking, all of which had to be re-done. As of yesterday, pretty much back to where I was , 4 weeks lost:

This time it’ll be UHU for the decks...
