Dupuy de Lome, 1rst french battlecruiser, 1/700 scale
And this is a crazy warship that can make open your eyes wide when you see it the first time.
As you can see, a batllecruiser from 1895 became just a destroyer at 1944. It's called evolution

It is crazy with you think about the size creep in warships. And then add crazy French design. Good work.

Thanks, Greg!
I finished the skeleton and now comes the inner reinforcements of the skin. I'll use tabs in each border of the structure, just like I did with the Mauretania. (Still seems crazy and small)

Ok, the original paper model includes a set of tabs that seems to be wonderfull at the original scale (1:200) but that is unpractical at 1/700 scale.
So, made some bigger tabs by my own, and started to glue the lower half of the hull. Remember that I like to sand, varnish, sand again and paint the hull, so you are seen just the form of the hull, not the finished product. This section is important, because it's a smooth surface, single color. It means that any mistake is shown. So, patience. By the way: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020!

I'm not sure what it is but there is something really eye catching about pre-Dreadnought battleships.Regardless where they came from I have hard time concentrating on one part of the ship and my eye wonders. It's really interesting effect.
The only other ships that do that are early destroyers, torpedo boats. |

Yes, that ships right after the sails or even that rare ones with sails and coal, were a very weird ones.
Anyway, the lower hull is "finished". Meaning that now comes placing the axis of the propellers, the bilge keels, sanding, varnishing and painting. And only after that comes the upper half of the hull. Right now it looks more like a submarine :-)

Couldn't resist the temptation, sorry.
Today assembled the upper hull and part of the superstructure. I expect to paint and sand the hull this weekend, but before I must glue the axis of the propellers and the bilge keels. By the way, the rudder keeps going loose, it's going to be a headache. (Still looking weird)

Again bad quality pictures, but...!
After varnishing, sanding and STARTING to paint, you can see the results. The bilge keels had been glued, the axis supports are indicated. Once glued the axis, there must be a secong sanding and a second layer of paint. The gray over the waterline will need just one layer of paint, no varnish and not sanding. I really want to finish the hull, but work is work and hobby is later!

Sorry, bad quality pictures again, I'll publish the good ones the the Sunday.
The hull is panted, the shafts are assembled, and the decks are painted. Now comes the superstructure and the main guns, of course!
