Elco 80' with additional armament
Thank you Southfwestorest and Rock55:
I am glad you like the Early Elcos. This one has the armament that was added: Bofors 40 mm, 37 mm autocannon, and a mortar. |

Very Nice! Thank you for all your hard work!! I am looking to release! Maybe one of the Measure 31 variants, or the Adaptive (Zebra stripe) scheme? Fine work all around!!

Better Torpedos
I have been making some torpedoes for the later marks of the PT boats, they still need some adjustments.

Adaptor Scheme
Dear All:
Please find attached an Elco 80' in the Adaptor Scheme. For simplicity and sanity the sides are mirror images based on the PT Boat World site. PT Boat World - History and Modeling I think Rock55 should test build it since he asked for it ;-) If you stop by please let me know what do you think. WIP Zebra pater
I just could not resist. here is the WIP for the Adaptor Scheme. This should be a lot better in 1/200 with crispier definition for the stripes than in 1/400. But I am "married" to 1/400 and I would feel dirty if I do another scale ;-)

Nice work putting one together! An interesting little boat...though I can see why it was not a popular scheme, at least in the Pacific. Maintaining it must have been a nightmare. Seems like a modified version was used extensively in the Mediterranean on Higgins boats. Anyway a really nice build and a lovely little model. Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you. As you mentioned the pattern was used in the Higgins in the Mediterranean but there is very little info about them. A few pics from PT 208, only from the front, but no side views or profiles.
Anyone with relevant info???? |

"c. 1944 PT-218, moored along with other boats, at the PT Boat Base at Bastia, Corsica in the Mediterranean Photo from Life Magazine Archives - Carl Mydans Photographer, Shared by Peter DeForest" another one: PT-202 "PT-210, PT-203 and PT-202" "Bridge personnel on PT-202 (J-Square) while on patrol off Bastia Corsica in the Mediterranean - June 1944 Photo from LIFE Magazine - Carl Mydans Photographer, shared by Peter DeForest" according to wikipedia two PT boat units served in the Mediterranean (MTBRON15 and MTBRON22), so if you know what PT boats were in those units, you can check the PT Boat photo page on Navsource.org for any pictures of applied camouflage you're looking for... I do like the PT-203's sharkmouth some interesting website about PT boats and camouflage: PT Boat World - History and Modeling This is PT-208, Navsource caption says: "Bizerte, Tunisia New engines ready for installation" So far I found out there two dazzles schemes were designed for PT-Boats: - Measure 31/5P - This scheme utilized Navy Green and Ocean Green - Measure 31/20L - This scheme combined Black, Green #2 and Green #3 However, US PT-Boats serving in the Mediterranean and English Channel were under command by British Coastal Forces, so it is possible some of these boats were painted with British colours at any time Last edited by Foute Man; 02-24-2020 at 11:20 AM. |
