I just rejoined the ship for a month. I have finished OLDENBURG now, just the rigging to do.
I took more pics of the build - need to figure out a way of uploading from here though. Pesky cyber security rules ruining my fun! |

Thanks Decaturbeginner...
God has it been November since I was here?! Gonna finish the rigging. Used the felt tip markers to 'dress' the model (I believe that's the term you pro modellers here would use?!) So I covered up all the white edges, that's what I mean. |

This is my first rigging project. My idea was to tie the rigging to the masts first. 4 stays on each mast, plus a forestay, backstay and line joining the masts. Then theres the running rigging for the 2 derricks.
The best idea I could come up with was to pop a hole where I wanted the line secured in the deck dab cyano on the last 3-5mm of the line letting it set hard Use a tweezers to now push the cyano-hardened line into the previously made hole Put a small drop of cyano on the hole now containing the line Tension the line by pulling it gently downwards until the cyano sets. What do you think? I want to hear peoples different thoughts! |

Ok. Nearly done.
As you can see I didn’t quite get the same tension in the running rigging for the derricks. Next step is securing the ends of the derricks. This is done by a line secured on one side of the deck, through the head of the Derrick, and secured on the other side of the deck. With the head secured in place, Ill try ‘tensioning’ the Slacker of the 2 Derrick luffing lines by tying an overhand knot around the mast in such a way as to tension the slack line. Any comments/suggestions?! |

Your OLDENBURG looks really good, I wish I could help with rigging but it's been a challenge for me too. Can you back up & take another stab & retension? I only ask because in my experience it seemed that I had to re-do things multiple times, and this was with an approach was a lot less seamanlike, I think, than what you're doing.
Hoping all is well by you, break-a-leg☺ |
