Oldenburg by Schreiber

Hello All,

Gonna try and give this build log a go.
I finished my first paper model, Schreiber U-9 submarine yesterday.

If you have any tips how to upload the pics quickly from an iPhone here that would be great.

I resized the pics first, but I see they can be 5MB each?!

Heres some more pics...

Part 1.
First lesson for me was - read the instructions!!
The rough white strips on either side are because I belatedly realised they were not supposed to be folded and glued together and end up vertical!

I kinda twigged something was amiss when they were vertical, they protruded down below the base about 1mm or so.

Luckily realised this before the glue was totally dry so managed some emergency surgery to peel them apart.

The 2 other pics show the aftermath viewed from either end.

Okay - managed to get outa that scrape!

Took the forepart - folds into a 'C' shape and glues to the tab at the front of #1.

Important that this piece is glued accurately in position and I think I've done that.

Forgot to score the vertical tabs you see!!

So I had to improvise again and hold the completed model onto the corner of the cutting mat, and score them there. Worked fine. Out of jail again!

Meantime assembled #3 &#3a - the support for the focsle... see next post.

Having assembled #3 & #3a, found I didn't get the glue all the way to the edge.

Had to run a bit round the edge, push together and hold.

Then of course the glue oozes out... and I'd already put glue all the way around, so now theres glue oozing from all 4 sides!

You'll see in the last pic I employ my trustee locking tweezers to help.

Thumbs up

Looks like a good start despite the folding and glueing mishaps. All part of the learning curve.

I have built a few Schreiber-Bogen buildings. What I like about the parts is they will have the number of the part that gets attached on the appropriate area of another part.

Thanks Doug. Yup - learning curve indeed!

At least I was sensible enough for once to not to bite off more than I can chew! I bought a pile of stuff from Fentens, but many simple models like this so I can get to grips with it. I find its a kind of mental yoga doing this!

You can post your 5 meg photos, but I would suggest that you resize them, or reduce the pixel count on your phone.
all that extra data in the picture just eats up storage space, and makes the forum react sluggish

Thanks rickstef,
I'll continue resizing them like I've been doing. For now I'll just post the way I've done above, if it becomes a regular thing I'll suss it out in the end.

U-9 looks good. That type has what might be called a minimalist shape.
