I always find it a pity that these German models don't have an underwater ship, also HMV have only a few models with underwater ship. I never got myself so far to build a waterline model, maybe in another life. But some of them are really beautiful models !

@Decaturbeginner: Whithout glazing you wouldn`t see the interior Thank you for commendation
@John: Maybe the tradition of waterline models in Germany has its origin in the early years of Wilhelmshavener models in the 1950ies and in opposite to Schreiber models. By that time these models were often built by children to play with and it is much better to play without the underwater ship as I personally can confirm from my childhood in the 1970ies and 1980ies. I built lots of Wilhelmshavener but none of Schreiber even if the ships cemetry still existing in my parents house shows that papermodels aren`t really made for playing in general... Constructions have developed since than and so it seems anachronistic to you. Waterline models still have advantages in use for dioramas. |

When you see someone do really skillful work, it does serve us that are not so skilled as encouragement... thank you for sharing
Have you been able to see Nordergründe at Bremerhaven? Or Bruno Illing when it was in service? I gather Nordergründe has rather novel 'Voigt-Schneider' propellers, something I had no idea existed until today. hope all is well by you- |

I have seen both in Bremerhaven where I grew up and which I am visiting regularly. If you are interested in the technology try these links which lead to drawings of the NORDERGRÜNDE and to the very similar AMRUMBANK both built at Fassmer shipyard.

Today I finished the bridge and I am really happy about result although I rough-handled the paper a bit to much...

Beautiful work, the bridge always seems to me to hold a big piece of a ship's visual character

Thank you Tim, for me the bridge is the face of a ship and funnels were the ears in former times - In a german forum the funnel of the NORDERGRÜNDE was described as "fumes building"
