Thanks folks. Having a serious rethink about converting my existing ship files to 400 scale. I have been sold on the quality and fidelity of the JSC kits and also the amount of accesssories avalable. Using a scanner and some drawing software, there are endless possibilities for converting the JSC range into other vessels, not least, the RN cruiser and destroyer series from WW2.

So, I would agree, long live 400 scale, it is certainly the way ahead for me now.

A very important issue is parking space for your models!
A 1/200 needs four times the area!

I have been toying with the idea of converting the USS Ballard into a Fast Attack Transport. Have you consider it?

No, haven't considered this one. Planning on starting with destroyers, for example, converting ORP Garland into HMS Gloworm to acompany Admiral Hipper. The action between these two ships is quite famous from the start of WW2 and was still told in the RN when I joined in 1974.

The Wickes and Clemson class that survived into the 1930's and 1940 were converted for various roles, the ones that had not been converted yet were handed over to the UK in 1940.

Conversion to High Speed Transport:

Click on this link for some drawings of USS Kane (DD-235) in 1944, converted as High Speed Transport (APD-18)

USS Ballard was converted to a seaplane tender (AVD-10)

Ah, I see now. I didn't realise that they were the same class. These are certainly do-able. Will have a tinker once I have completed both Campbeltowns

Every day is a school day

USS Ballard in camo paper

Dear Bernie and Foute Man:
I have been toying with the idea of converting the Ballard or Campbeltown to a fast transport.
I did some hand drawing of it and using Operation Husky boats from JSC.
I just printed it in camo paper. I am sure that there will be issues with alignments but this is a hobby it should be fun.
Not to hijack your posts, here is the sample.

ps how good is to have a wiz of info searching and finding in governmental archives
