Hanse Kogge 1:72 Shipyard lasercut

I've settled into my new house, time to get building again!

Shipyard published another beautiful fully lasercut kit last year, a Hanse Kogge from 1380 as excavated in Bremen. These were important merchant ships in mediėval Europe.

I've built a couple of these wonderful lasercut models before, and I'm sure this one will not disappoint! The tricky part is to get the wood pattern painting right.

Its type name has me wondering how related it would be to what in English is termed a Cog ship.
And then as has sort of become 'my thing' here, this related book may be of interest,

Hello Marco,
Looking forward to watching you build a sail ship.
It seems far removed from your more modern projects.

The English term "cog" refers to exactly the same ship type as far as I know.
I like to build a sailing vessel every now and again. This one happens to be rather appropriate, as my new hometown was once part of the Hanseatic League.
So let's get going with the internal frame.

Looking good.
Those hull frames look thick.
What material did you use Marco?

The frames are not particularly thick, but there are a lot of them on a relatively small ship. Lasercut cardboard, about 1mm.
I've already made the sail, I was curious what it would look like. Handpainted on thin canvas.

This looks like a very good project, and very different from the 20th century ships you have building so well.

Thank you very much!
Here is a bit more of the hull, and the cargo hold. Unlike other Shipyard lasercut models, there is no triple hull planking here - maybe that's why there are so many internal frames.
