SMS Sachsen - model in 1:200 scale
Good morning to all paper modelers!!
I would share with you my last project, quite near to be terminated, about the model, in 1:200 scale, of the German ironclad SMS SACHSEN of 1878, based on the kit published by Dom Bumagi. This is a very good kit, with a lot of details and well designed. I would suggest this kit for all modelers that love the ironclad and battleships of 19th century, especially if looking a bit strange and ugly. This is my third model of SMS Sachsen. The first I built was in 1:100 scale, many years ago, totally scratch-built using "traditional" materials (wood, metal, plastic); the second one was based on 1:250 scale waterline paper kit published by HMV and was my very first paper model, some years after the first Sachsen. So, after many other ship paper models, I have decided to try again the building of another Sachsen in paper, full-hulled. I have found the Dom Bumagi kit on internet and I bought it. In the meantime, here stared the safety lockdown for the Covid-19 and, closed at home for smart-working, I have found enough free time to start and (I hope soon) complete this model. in this period. At the moment the ship is still missing of some little components like the rear boat, propellers, vents, flags, anchors and chains, a good stand and ...yes, sure... a nice transparent case to protect it. One of the most challenging things for this model was to create all the rigging in paper... at the moment the only metallic wire used (0,1 mm) is the one that brings the hooks at the end of the poles/cranes connected to the mast. All the other rigging that you can see on the pictures are made only by paper. So, here are some pics of the Sachsen in 1.200 in paper (red hull) at the actual status of the dockyard and also some pics of the "first" Sachsen in 1:100 (the one with green hull). Happy paper-modeling and ... stay safe !! ciao Jp

Beautiful models . . . both of them.
My favorite is your red hull version. This is one of the best renditions of the full hull Sachsen I have seen. Mike |

Very nice model and very good execution, I really like it. The warships of the late 19th century seem very attractive to me Congratulations on such a good work
The funnels and cannons are the best...and everything |

And I would like to add . . . . the "Paper" rigging is absolutely wonderful.

Wow, looks real good. The paper rigging is some nice work. Great detail on the rest of the ship, too.

Good morning and good weekend to all paper modelers
At the last, I have completed the model of SMS SACHSEN in 1:200 scale, with all the particulars and components, included anchors (also anchors chains), model stand and name plates.... all things completely in paper. Now i'ts time to think to next paper model.. I have some ideas, spreading from an architectural model, to a new ship (civilian, probably) or something about surface transport, or an airplane ... I'm start to think about ;-) Anyway, in the meantime I have also completed a little model of Steam salon ship "Alexandra" by HMV kit, in 1:250 scale.. but this will be described in another thread. Now some pics of the Sachsen model.. Happy paper-modeling to everybody and stay safe !! ciao Jp

Way beyond wow and into uncharted territory for me. I think I shall restrain myself to "That is magic and a truly magnificent build. Marvelous to behold".
