That's a great photo Fred.
All Lakes Freighters. I'll bet many here (including me) would love to see more. May I suggest you start a thread: and post lots of images of those ships? Mike Last edited by Michael Mash; 02-21-2020 at 05:03 PM. |

Mike, I’ll have to think about that. I did do one thread, there wasn’t a lot of interest.

Fred! Fred? Fred, what are we going to do with you now? Those models are fabulous. I want to know every detail of how you made them and colored them!
I hope and wish that you could inspire other folks to build models of their own favorite ships. Carl |

Better tank photo
Yippee! I have had at least one positive impact on the world!
Also, I managed to get my phone to link with my computer so I could transfer a picture... of my Pzkpfw III! But I've actually been getting an itch to design and hopefully build a ship model... one of my very favorites of the French battleship collection. We shall see... Carl |

Tough to guess which one that may be.
As I recall, you have many French "favorites". Looking forward to it. |

Mike, Carnot would be number one on my list if I could ever get a clear look at that top deck. After a short period at sea she couldn't turn at least one of her side turrets because the support had sagged and cracked. Amazing!

I've been assembling the photos, plans, books and articles (from Renaud! Thank you again, friend!) for my new project.
It is a model of a ship that I have wanted to build for quite a while and that I got a start on over 10 years ago. Well, I called up the Rhino images from back and started to try to understand why I had done things as they were. And then I realized that I had been "Rhino-ed" once again. The software has loads of quirks, most of which are no big deal. However this one comes from the "Picture Frame" function that allows me to bring in drawings and use them to trace from. Also, I've known for years that the picture frame pieces will go blank if the source file is not in the exact specified file location. Since 2008 these files have been moved through at least four computers. However this time the problem manifests itself as picture frames that are visible but which are not recognized by the program in any way that I can approach. If I try to export even a single line or point to a new file, the images travel with it. CAD design is easy, isn't it? Today I made the final decision to start all over with my work, beginning with the hull as usual. Getting a hull to be "right" with all the variations between different hand-drawn images that may have warped and twisted, and to make it in a way that will work with all the future pieces is complex. I'll show some pictures from the computer in a while after I've got the sides on. So far I've just made the waterline level (not an actual deck) and the top deck. Then I started verifying and understanding the relationships between all the different levels at each of the cross sections that are provided from the original sources. Carl |
