Re-entry can be painful....,
Carl,
Great to have you back. Documentation must reside in the design file no matter what. This doubles down on running rendering packages on top of Rhino. BTW have you ever melted styrofoam with acetone to prepare a styrene paper hardner? Results in "plastic" cardstock on the cheap..., -Gil |

Carnot is great news, Carl!

Challenging project, notably the stern is all curves. In some photos she appears to have similar tumblehome to Massena. In other photos, not so much so. Perhaps some of the pictures may not be properly attributed. I have seen no photos or drawings of the full hull, so I wonder what kind of bow she has. Mike |

Her bow is a straight stem, her major difference from Massena.

OK, guys, I guess I was not clear. I would love to do Carnot but lack enough information for much more than an educated guess at much of her exterior.
Here is a photo to show the ACTUAL ship that I am working to model! It is a return to Liberté, for me one of the visually most appealing of the French ships. Of course her forward magazines blew up spontaneously in 1911 and left her as navigation hazard in Toulon for decades after. I will be attempting some unusual things perhaps for this build. The image shows that I am working on making a nice hull and have started with defining the slightly projecting belt that rises above the waterline by one deck. But the interesting thing that I finally came to understand is that the elevated bow was NOT achieved by deck camber for these ships but was actually done by sloping the deck up until it reached the peak of the prow. Camber on these ships was very slight, so slight that it would be difficult to actually show it at this scale. However, now the decks can be justifiably represented as flat from starboard to port! I'll get a build thread going when I've got hull sides to show. Carl |

Following with great interest. Scale is 1:250?? Since GreMir's secure selling system is no longer available can we assume you will be selling directly or through a new third party (like eCardmodels?)

Old Troll. As I live and breathe. It is good to see you!
I will make it at 1:250. I doubt I will turn it into a kit. It is painfully tedious to make everything nice for other people and illustrations.... Then there is Fred watching out for quality and the customer going over everything. He is always correct of course. For now I just want to have some fun. I've been diligently working on the hull and have beaten it into good enough shape for a start. Figuring out how to lay it out for building will be a challenge! That unclear line heading towards the stern is an armored belt that projects out past the hull. I will need to make some big cutouts for the hull mounted guns an take the aft part down a deck for the quarterdeck. I'm almost getting to like this model! Carl |

Liberte sounds just fine to me.
Did you check out Jim Baumann’s build of Carnot at Steel navy. Just google Carnot, it will show up.

Oui, c'est moi! I still have all your GreMir-published models and have even started a few over the years until the combination of gorilla fists, Mr. McGoo eyes and the attention span of a new puppy gets the better of me.
I understand your feelings about marketing your projects. At least we will have the joy of watching you produce another masterwork.

There is a video on the French pre-Dreadnought battleships by Drachinifel on YouTube. Fairly long (48 minutes) but worth it if you want to get a feel for historical context of the French designs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ygXLnRAm-A It's titled, somewhat cheekily, as "French Pre-Dreadnoughts - When Hotels go to War" Great to have the Golden Bear back - I used to enjoy seeing how he figured out how to represent the strange shapes of the French warships in card. Regards, Charlie |
