Having over 800 parts, that is really quite an undertaking...

Is it possible to give the wiggly ones a dab of shellac or super glue?

Thanks John,
I think that the kit designer has it already figured out in the design. Note how the frames straighten out when they are glued the hull bottom skin. Later the floors and side pieces will finish the job. So now I am back to putting in the remaining frames. cheers Jim |

I’m having my model printed out by Staples office supply. There’s 37 pages to the kit, but only the last 12 are parts. Total cost is about $11. Unfortunately they only have 65lb cardstock in 11” X 17” size, so my model will need reinforcement I’m afraid. I will pick up the sheets tomorrow and then start really reviewing jimbean’s excellent photos. Thanks jimbean for being the pathfinder on this build. And of course to FRD for bringing this model back.

I personally have assembled three of these, the most recent was 15 years ago, another good build thread of it can be found here-> 1/100 USS Monitor
This could be used as a good reference..

I’ve started my build. I’m going to use some magnets and steel washers to join the top and bottom parts of the hull. Hopefully this will allow me to separate the parts and display the interior. After building the top deck, I’ve decided the reverse the build order in the instructions and build the bottom hull from the bottom up.

Good start Knife,
I reversed the order when building the deck, glued the sides to the deck and then the beams to the deck. I don't think it made much difference in the long run. I am using the recommended order for the hull. Just finished putting in the last frames. Now I have to put on the lower deck and get all of those tabs in the right place. Scary cheers Jim |

Your model is looking great. Your (excellent) photos reminds me how much more I have to go. I don’t want to hijack this thread, so will only post photos when I do something differently than you do.

That's great progress and it looks like you have broken the back now!
Looking really nice.

Magnets, that's a clever idea...
