Gokstad viking ship / WAK + scratch / upscaled to 1:48
I have finaly get to build this beautifuly designed model by designer Tomasz Weremko.
More about the history of the ship here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gokstad_ship Tomasz Weremko, designer of the model, used archeological drawings to design this model, so it is historicaly correct according to available informations. I upscaled the model to my favourite 1:48 scale. Skeleton is done. Comparison with model original scale: I will try to paint it. Some early experiments with watercolour paints. |

I found something interesting. Now it seems that Gokstad shields was covered with leather. Here is newest experimental archeology reconstruction:

Unfortunately I was forced to cancel the build due to my mistakes.
I used water based glue for laminating. I applied the glue to the paper on witch I printed my enlarged templates instad of the card I use for laminating. Water changed the shape of the template, making the keel, stem and stern longer, so planks were too short and do not reach to the places they should. I found it out after half of the planking was done. Lesson learned. |
