S.S. Politician

Howdy,

Listening to classical music and a book on CD into the wee morning hours
while enjoying sanding tooth pics / wood dowels, assembling them into required booms, and painting.

Next day glued all the booms in place, and continued adding all the teeny deck parts.

Today: Uh..Oh... Discovered my error. the booms I made are too tall! They should not be above the smoke stack. Checked internet photos of the actual ship..sure enough I screwed up.

ARRRGGGHU!

I definitely understand your frustration especially at that stage of your build because it's looking really good!

love the idea of sanding the toothpicks into cylinders. I usually use spaghetti.

The kingposts do look a little tall, but it's still a terrific model of a good-looking ship of the classic era of break-bulk cargo and tramp steamers.

Nice model, and we noticed that because you mentioned it.
Thank you for sharing. I totally forgot about using the drill.

I agree, a nice build.

The templates on sheet 1 of the instructions show the kingpost heights from the deck and from the keel. My intent was to cut holes in the decks, poke the kingposts through the holes, and rest the bottoms of the kingposts on the keel, with the deck providing only lateral support. If the kingposts were cut to the longer lengths but fixed to the deck instead of the keel, that would explain the tall kingposts in the final model.

I do enjoy seeing my models being built!

Corrected Booms and created Base

Corrected boom height.

BASE:
Primed thin hardwood strip. When dry , added glue soaked kleenex layers, and introduced waves by pushing wet kleenex with brush tip. Allowed two days drying then painted . Gloss coated final.
