Finally Finished!
Finally finished Captain Nemo’s NAUTILUS from the book 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Designed by Rom Miller and published by Heinkel Models. Purchased through ecardmodels.com. It’s a fine and fun model to build. It’s mostly just straight or conical sections. Fit was excellent (even with my enlargement). My biggest worry when building was the pointed cones at each end, but I worked the paper slowly using an awl and slight dampness on a foam mouse pad, my hands and fingers. I think they came out great! I built from the center section out to the aft, then worked outward on the fore sections. Most of the formers were made from paper faced foam board. The model is one color overall. I made one concession, I painted the propeller and hub a nice brassy color. Stand out nicely. I had plenty of burps along the way, caused by myself. A couple of places I wished for more direction, but it was easy enough to figure out. My finished model is just over 39”, I don’t know what scale this makes it.
