Floating dock OSTRÓW II - 1:250 - JSC
By a bit of coincidence I'm building another floating dock. This is a resized version of the original 1:400 model. It is intended for a shop window display, and will eventually have the SS Rotterdam (1959) in it, to represent the time at which the ship was converted to a museum ship from 2005 to 2008. The real dock is located in the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk, Poland, and is featured on the start page of the shipyard (Home - Remontowa - Remontowa).
It starts with a bit of a challenge, fitting the base on an A2 sheet of 1mm cardstock, having to add a small strip of cardstock for it to fit, and then doubling up so it has a nice and strong 2mm base.

Hello Marco,
You will not be the first one to put the Rotterdam in a drydock. On the Scaldis site you will find a number of pictures of my 1/400 built of the Rotterdam in the same drydock. I am always wondering, when I see a new built, how many hours you do per day as you built amazingly quick. Although I am retired I do only a few hours per day, when I'm lucky. There are also other things to do: walking the dog, shopping, playing tennis. anyway, I will follow your built with interest. Good luck. It's a pitty that the hull colour of the 1/250 model is not correct. The colour of the 1/400 model is much better. Kind regards Hans. |

Whenever work is slow (thanks covid...) I have some extra time.
I want to arrange the support blocks in a way that makes more sense for the Rotterdam, so I'm building those first while I still have full access. The block pattern that comes with the model is for the Lucky Lady when it was being converted to the Willift Eagle carrier vessel.

Hi Marco - nice to see you have started on another floating-dock.
I enjoyed your last build and followed it (even though I did not post a lot on it!). Keep well!

Watching all those support blocks come together was hypnotic.
Rotterdam is a beautiful model. I look forward to seeing the dock take shape. Don |

Thank you! Here are the walls of the dock - rather large parts, but a lot easier to process than the base plate.

Thanks! Here are the smaller details. The lights were made from strips of cardboard, according to the template in the instructions.

The cranes. I used some sand in the cabin as ballast, so they're a bit more stable.

All good, but the lace work in those cranes is amazing.
