Hi all, thanks for the input.
The only advice I could offer when building one of these kits is this; read the instructions thoroughly, cut out parts carefully, pre-shape and use the minimum of glue when assembling. Just about goes for any paper model I suppose! Anyhoo, on with the build. One of the stern pieces as an example. The part is cut right on the line, scored and folded before attaching. I use a syringe to apply a thin bead of PVA to the frames and then the part just falls into place. The hull was finished this way in two sessions and took about four hours to complete to this stage. Glue is now setting up as I move on to the decks. No issues so far other than my rather untidy assembly so far. There are a couple of gaps, but these will be filled and sanded before the planking goes on. In fact, there is advice to this effect in the very comprehensive instructions. Stay tooned chums.

Continuing with the hull and moving on to the main deck.
Main deck in place. The first issue that I've had is with the numbering of the deck knees. These are matched pairs, working from forward to aft. Each part is laminated to 1mm and then joined together. As can be seen with the numbering system, these would not match, so they were changed accordingly. Not a big fuss, but something to be careful of. The same is also true for the bulwark support ribs. As can be seen, I have changed the colour of the knees to match the bulwark interiors. These knees will be the main attachment points for the upper-works. Turning out to be a very pleasant build.

Captain's cabin and wardroom bulkheads fitted.
I am off on vacation for a week to the Scottish Highlands with kids and grand-kids, so no work till I get back. See you all on the flipside.

Bulwarks and knees in place. The bulwarks were a little bit tricky and needed some fine adjustment to length to get everything lined up with the witness marks on the deck.
I am going to leave the main hatches open, but have covered one with a home-made grating. The kit supplied hatch-coamings needed some trimming to sit snug. The deck-head beams were two laminations of 1mm board and painted accordingly. I have used a mix of Tamiya flat and gloss red for these and is a perfect match for the print. Ship's sides to be fitted before moving on to the guns.

I think if I was to ever build a sailing ship, the Enterprise is probably the one I want to build.
It will be a shame to give it up when its done Bernie!

We are all cheering for you.
Building one of these to meet a deadline is quite a challenge. Fine work, and it looks as if it is "speeding" along nicely. Mike |
