Russian cruiser ADMIRAL NAKHIMOV - 1885 - kit from Dom Bumagi
Hello again to all paper modelers worldwide !!
In this new thread I'll describe the building of a new paper ship model. It's an 1:200 scale model of Russian cruiser Admiral Nakhimov, launched on 1885 and sunk by Japanese at the Battle of Tsushima, on 28 May 1905. More information on the original ships are available at the Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia...Nakhimov_(1885) and also on this russian site (you can translate it online in english) : http://flibusta.site/b/350425/read The kit in A3 size, from Dom Bumagi, is really very well designed, printed on good quality paper and, moreover, very rich of detailed drawings for assembling, particulars and general views. Indeed it could be used also in a good way if you would built a model of the ship in other materials (wood, metal, plastic). It represents the ship in her last appearance, in 1905, before the battle of Tsushima, without masts, bowsprit and sails and with her last gunnery set. This kit presents, as cover, the "new look" used by Dom Bumagi for some models (like the SMS Sachsen and the HMS Rodney) I have decided to built the model showing the 152 mm guns on the battery deck, and giving the view of the deck looking from gun's hatches. So, here are some pics of the model (the pics are not of the actual status of the model... I'll post later some new pics) Happy paper modeling and ... stay safe !! ciao Jp

JP, that work is magnificent!
Those guns alone are things of beauty. Really looking forward to seeing this one come together. Greg |

Hello and good morning (or good night..depending from which part of the earth you live...)
Continuing the building of the model of the cruiser Admiral Nakhimov, a bit slowly but trying to complete the hull as much as possible before to start with superstructures. So, in last days I have built the hatches and stairs for lower bridges, the bases for the lateral turrets for guns and the shields opened for the battery guns, in order to show the internal components. Next step (not simple at all) will be to build the rear rails for admiral's walk, that has a bit complicate shape and protects also a couple of Hotchkiss revolving guns positioned laterally in the admiral's walk. I'll try to build the rail completely by paper, but it will be not a simple task.. So, here some pics of the actual status of the model Have an happy paper-modeling ciao JP

Good morning to all paper modelers !!
The building of Admiral Nakhimov model is going on, constantly but a bit slower than planned (fortunately the job activities are going on in a good way, also in this pandemic moment and there is not so much spare time available for the model like in the past months..) Anyway.. one of the parts that I was afraid of this model was the stern area with admiral's walk and railings around.. In the kit the railings are designed as a continuing paper stripe.. but I absolutely prefer to build by myself this parts avoiding also (whenever is possible) photo-etched parts And so, I have re-designed the rail of admiral' walk in order to built it completely by paper.. The task has been done and I'm enough satisfied from result. Now to complete this part of the ship remains only to put the Imperial Eagle ensign on the rail, put laterally the two Hotchkiss revolving guns and position the windows covers in opened position. After this I'll start to build the very complicate superstructure of the ship. Anyway...here few pics of the model at the actual stage .. Have an happy paper modeling and stay safe !! ciao Jp

Nice work JP.
The "Admiral's Walk" appears on the stern of many pre dreadnought warships . . . particularly in the Czar's navy. I like them . . . they add so much detail and character to the old warships. Mike |

Good start and nice model. The Dom Bumagi kits are very well conceived and very well detailed.
