Heinkelmodels 1/200 RN Affondatore

The affondatore is a famous italian warship for participating in the Battle of Lissa. Italia versus the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1866.
It was the first steamship battle in history and above all, it was the first ship to carry the concept of a modern warship.
In a narrow long hull design low caliber the artillery scattered throughout the hull is replaced by large guns protected by rotating turrets at the bow and stern.
A more advanced design, in my opinion to the USS Monitor from the same time.

I present the design in two versions, with sails and without sails. The documentation of this ship is very scarce. I present this model as faithfully as possible.

I love these old war ships I think of Errol Flynn swinging from the yardarm through the smoke snatching up Maureen O'Hara and planting a sloppy kiss on those rosy red lips......
Ah! I dream again....seems to be all that happens these days.
Thanks for sharing.

Well done! I actually looked at designing a model of the Affondatore some years ago and could not find enough information or drawings to make me confident I could proceed. So I am doubly impressed at the result. It is on my "to buy" list next time I shop at Ecardmdodels.

Hi,

thats great!
Do you know what would be better than this cardmodell?
When you create the opponent leader, the austrian-hungarian ironclad Erherzog Ferdinand Max.
But dont confuse it with the casematteship.

Cheers

I agree...
With detailed and reliable drawings it is possible. The problem is finding them..

Drawings are no problem.
The austrian State-Archive has them.
Lets see, I have to do a look in my private archive.

I think, details we shold discuss via PM.

Greetings from Austria.

Hello!!!

I have already bought this kit a couple of days ago.

I can say that is very well designed, with good colours and dimensions seems absolutely right.

I’ll start this model soon and I already decided to detail the guns inside the turrets... I have found some years ago a drawing of the longitudinal section of the turret with gun mounting.

In any case this is another wonderful Heinkel Models creation..

Now just saiting for the release of the fast battleship RN ITALIA..😉

Have a nice paper-modeling time!!

Ciao

I have been tempted to do the full turret option. But finally I have opted for the simple, it is completely hidden.
