Hello friends , I need help to clarify one thing. On main turrets there are two windows (like portholes)on each side printed. I contacted the publisher and they confirmed. On historical picture they are noticeable.

Hi,

The portholes can be opened, as well as the hatches on the turret. I have attached examples for Akizuki's 100mm turret (i.e. a different one) as I don't have the Kagero-class reference with me right now. The portholes open towards the top, which I think is the same way as the Kagero's 127mm turret. You can find this opened hatch in many detail-up PE set for plastic models as well.

Edit: the book by Tamiya has an illustration of the Kagero type 127mm turret in the hatches open configuration. See last image

The text description reads as follows:
"Starting from the modified Hatsuharu class, Shiratsuyu class, modified Shiratsuyu class, Asashio class, and ending with the Kagero class, the C-type twin 127mm turret is used. The Yugumo and Shimakaze class are fitted with the D-type variation, where the maximum elevation is increased from 55 to 75 degrees. However the difference between the external appearance of C- and D-type turret is minimal."

The railings ("deckstay?") on top of the turret is for mounting the canvas cover, in order to prevent the turret from getting too hot in the warmer times of the Pacific.

Started working on gun turrets. I think it was the most challenging part of this build. Lots of work with wires. Good thing there are only 3 of them :P One of them is now finished. Two still need barrel's boots. From my side I opened most of the doors, port holes and add covers for them.

Hi Alan ,be honest all you need is good magnifying glasses. I dont think I would be able to do anything without them. Everything is so small.

Thank you Jaffro, Pixerpusher, Paperfan for interest and nice comments.

Hi Olo,
Yes, I have some, still experimenting with them.
Of more use I have a desktop magnifier, which I seem to love!

I agree with you - I'm doing a small rigging exercise now, and they are both useful in different circumstances. I must admit, hearing you say 'all you need is glasses' is a bit like hearing Uri Geller say 'just focus on what you're doing'!!!

Regards,
Alan
