I remember seeing military hydrofoils zoom by at high speed when I lived on the water's edge in Florida back in 1980. fascinating!
I see this model is relatively easy to build. Isaac

Very nice, as far as I know this is the only paper model of this craft.
It is the basis for the Sparviero used in Italy and Japan. Thank you again!!! |

Hi All,
Thanks avrahamrl, for the terrific model of the USS Tucumcari. Launched in July of 1967, the Boeing built hydrofoil was the end-product of ten years of hydrofoil research and development. Sadly, she was lost after she ran into a coral reef at speed during exercises off Puerto Rico. The ship was stricken in November, 1973 and later scrapped. The photograph below gives me the opportunity to repeat one of my favorite puns... "He grounds the warship he walks on." Score and fold, Thumb Dog |

Would like to see someone tackle this famous Eastern Canadian Craft.

I did also!
For awhile, I was a member of Revell's "Model Of The Month Club". Apollo 11, Sikorsky Sky Crane, and the Tucumcari one are the ones that stand out. Thanks for the find!

Thumb Dog, the hidrofoils tend to end destroyed when coliding with sumerged obstacles. Here in Venezuela one of them sunk after crashing with a wale.

May be sad for both the cetacean and the boat, but the look so cool.
By the way the Israeli Navy operated some hydrofoils based on the Flagstaff, any chance to get them? |
