Wedgewood K-18
Wedgewood is a nickname for the Guardian Corvette (K-18), one of the first warships of the Israeli Navy. The ship was built in Canada and served as a corvette in the Royal Canadian Navy. After World War II the corvettes were sold by the Canadian Authority for Surplus Equipment and to American Society. Purchased by the Mossad for Aliyah B., it was renovated and used as an illegal immigrant ship called "Colonel Josiah Wedgwood". She was apprehended by the British authorities,
And was placed near the breakwater in the port of Haifa as part of the shadow fleet.
The Corvette H.M.C.S Beauharnois of the Royal Canadian Navy sailed the River Lawrence on the day it entered active service September 25, 1944.
The ship was built for the Royal Canadian Navy, as a "FLOWER" Corvette during World War II at Morton Shipyards in Quebec, Canada. It was launched on May 11, 1944 as the "H.M.C.S Beauharnois".
Eilat A-16
Eilat marked by the military A-16, was the first ship of the Israeli Navy and the first to participate in a naval battle during the War of Independence. The ship began its journey in 1927 as an armed icebreaker named "Northland" (USCGC Northland) in the service of the US Coast Guard until 1946. In 1947 it was converted into an illegal immigrant ship called the "Jewish State" with 2664 illegal immigrants. In April 1948, it was converted into an artillery ship named Eilat A-16
She was slow and had poor maneuverability and her job was to escort vessels and secure the beach.
In 1956, with the introduction of the Eilat K-40 service, its name was changed to the "Compass". On February 22, 1961, she completed her service in the Navy, and in 1962 was sold to scrap.

I thank you for this collection of ship models. In the 1980's I found a game titled "Fast Attack Boats" by Yaquinto Publications that uses the Arab-Israel War of October 1973. The boats used are the Komar, Osa, T-43, and P-4 against boats named Acco, Eilat, Gaash, Haifa and others. I was trying to find information on these boats, but did not know where to look. I usually lost, but enjoyed maneuvering and firing missiles (bullets are another missile) at the other guy.

Thank you very much!

Why did you post this?

We have a very clear rule on the forum: no politics on the site

If you can give me a good explanation, I will allow it, but if you can't, I will remove it

HI bob neill
In the navy, four ships were named "Eilat". The first was Eilat (A-16), which was later named "Compass" (1948-1961);The second destroyer "Eilat" (K-40) was sunk by Egyptian missile ships in 1967 The third, a Saar 2 missile ship (1968-1991) and the fourth Eilat (Saar 5) model, a Saar 5 model, which has been in active service since 1994 in the missile ship fleet.
The Haifa Navy ship was a Saar 2 missile ship marked with the fleet number 322. The first ship to carry the Gabriel missile system and with it were completed the development of the system and its absorption into operational operation. The ship was the second vessel to carry the name Haifa. The first was the Egyptian destroyer Ibrahim al-Awal who was taken loot and given the number of the K-38.
The ship took part in activities in the naval arena during the Yom Kippur War in early 1975 and was transferred on a voyage around Africa to the Red Sea. After the signing of the peace agreement with Egypt, it was returned, in December 1979, to the Mediterranean. This time through the Suez Canal and installed as a submarine ship. In the mid-1990s, Haifa Brothers was removed from the service. The plan to invest it as a diving site was not accepted and it was sunk in the heart of the Gulf of Eilat.
In 1968, she was discharged from the service, and gave the name of the Haifa Brigade to a new Saar 2 missile ship, carrying a fleet number S-322. On November 10, 1970, K-38 was sunk in the two Gabriel missiles fired from the ship that inherited its name.
The Acre was a Saar 2 missile ship that served in the Israeli Navy from 1969 to 1997.
The Saar 2 ship was built at Sharbur Shipyards together with the other ships in the Saar 2 series, Haifa and Eilat.

Thank you! I did not expect information like this. I still enjoy playing the game, even if I know nothing about its real history. Now I can build models of the boat types so others can see what the names look like.
