Thank you Michael,
I am realy pleased with it. I have done 12 out of 16 planks so far and the hull starting to curve upwards in the middle and it looks realy nice and elegant. I can not wait to add more planks |

Firs I cut oar holes to the planks:
then attach it to the hull: I did some tests how to paint the triangles: This is one posibility (score lines with blade so the paint will stop at it). Other idea is to cut individual triangles, paint them and glue them together. But maybe it will look too "precise". I need to test it. |

Gokstad Viking Ship 1:48 Scale
Beautiful model work, bigpetr!
I have been to Oslo, Norway, and seen the real thing many years ago, and this model's planking ('klink-bygge') looks just like it. Very nice, indeed. I will be following this thread... All the best from Stockholm, Bengt Fredén |

Thank you
I hope to visit the Oslo museum someday too. If it resembles the real thing then my research paid of Last edited by bigpetr; 11-05-2020 at 06:49 AM. |

Hi,
This is an impressive build! Looks very clean and good so far. Looking forward to seeing more! As to the triangles, I like the way with cutting the lines with a blade so the paint stops. In my opinion there is no need to cut them all out individually and glue back together... This is a small scale model after all.. But of course sometimes it is fun to try and rebuild every part in a model, loosing ourselves in the details...Where do we draw the line? -Radek

Hi,
Great job on the triangles. I also like very much the plank joints, or "butts" between two horizontal planks. Looks like they are only scratched in with some sharp knife and not cut through entirely. Very interesting, I will try that approach with the self-adhesive foil in my next build. Thanks for sharing! Great job! -Radek

Hi Radek,
Thank you. Not sure if it is good when butts looks like just scratched, i wanted them to look real |
