Hello Modelers,

The storage area just forward of the stern mast now has all of its boats.
Just forward of the aft mast are two gangway openings that need ladders.
Image 142 shows those assembled, and image 143 shows them installed.

Adding the next pieces to the aft superstructure required some design time and several test fittings. That is why image 144 shows “white” pieces with almost no detail or color. I needed to work with the fit, particularly around the gun. Image 146 shows how this is going to look. However, the parts are not attached, as there is still more work to do creating pieces that connect and support the upper platform.

Beautiful work, Mike, and in following your work on this and the other strange vessels in your "portfolio" (Flotte d 'Enchantillons, the "Fleet of Samples I now discover - well named for sure!)) I have been inspired to acquire the book by Jordan and Caresse on French battleships of WW1 to find out more about these remarkable prototypes. Scratch building is obviously the only way to go, I can see that there can be absolutely no shortage of inspiration for future work! I have also found quite a bit of material on the F d'E on the German website "Kaiserliche Marine Modell bau und Mehr" which surprised me somewhat but it's not as exclusive in content as its title might suggest.

Chris: Your compliment is appreciated and it motivated me to comment: Yes, if you are interested in building any of the "Flotte d 'Enchantillons", the choices in kit form are scarce. Scratch building opens up the possibilities for these “strange vessels”. The book you purchased should be very helpful. These ships, particularly the early ones, have a “Jules Verne” character to them. They are difficult, but fun to build. If you decide to build one, and show your work here, I will follow with great interest.

Hello Modelers,

The upper level of the stern superstructure (paper) was added. Then the piece (paper) above and around the mid ship barbette guns was installed. And the wall enclosing the boat storage area (paper) has gone up. I think Neptune’s superstructure is beginning to get the appearance seen in the vintage photo, in any case, that is the goal.
