JSC Conrad 1/400 scale
Hello all, on with another build. I am starting to make a dent in my stash of JSC kits, so on with this one. A 'D' class cruiser, HMS Danae, of WW1 vintage and transferred to the Polish Navy in 1944 and renamed Conrad.
The kit is of the usual high standard of JSC kits, simple and intuitive building, with good quality printing and good detail. For all their simplicity, I still have difficulty assembling the hull structure, so I have reinforced the decks with 1mm card. I have also made a base plate to stop the hull sides from warping. Belt and braces I know, but the JSC kits are easy to replace and strengthen the under-elements. Work progressed rapidly and this is the result of an evening's cutting and gluing. . More soon.

Coming along nicely. Decks, deckhouses in place and I have added some extra layering on the sides to represent the armour belt.

Very Nice Bernie!
I have a very complete JSC collection in 1/400 and your builds help me prioritize (and also the space available for the completed models). Thank you for sharing your techniques. |

Many thanks for the feedback friends, glad you are stopping by.
Another evening's productive work and I am quite pleased how quickly everything has come together. The long raised funnel deck was an area that I could have problems with due to its length, so I removed the after shelter deck area and fixed this to the bulkhead section. Once glued, the deck was carefully cut out and edge coloured. more soon.

Funnel deck fixed in place. If you look closely you can make out all the watertight doors which are supplied separately by JSC, a nice touch.
The detail on the foc'sle however was very faint so I drew up the anchor-chain ways and attached these to the deck. I have drawn up lots of accessories for this kit which will be used to replace some of the inaccurate kit parts. This kit, as far as I'm aware, is a reprint of one of JSC's earlier issues. The printing is very crisp and detailed, but some parts like the pom-poms and davits need updating. So, hence the new stuff. Having lots of fun with this.
