hello: vermin king, RdK and frigate 264,
mille grazie per sostegno e aiuto. / many thanks for your interest in giving me help. so go at work. in order to have the deck better later and where there is currently no board wall, I easily build a template of the deck, which I then use for further purposes. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I build with a 1mm cardboard a half ship deck in turn for now only resting on the "false" ship deck which I can extract whenever I want to facilitate my work, since I still don't know what I will mount on it as I do not have drawings to build in merit I hope drawing below gives an idea of what I am trying to explain |

after having mounted the parapets and prepared the templates
or second ship decks which will later be covered with the planking I apply the edge protection strips on the ship sides (see in the photo as I don't know exactly what they are called) obtaining these details by overlaying various layers of 1 mm cardboard. I use for a cardboard modeler certainly unorthodox methods but with a model of over 140 cm in length and 25 cm in width, the material works under great tensile forces. then I apply the upper parts of the side of the ship. trying to find and provisionally design the windows for the cannon hatches, looking for a compromise between constructive logic and a possible harmony that at the end of the work everything must give |

Nice building, Marco
Unusual vessel and approach for a paper ship model, also considering the whole scratchbuilding... I’ll follow this thread with a great interest and curiosity!! Happy paper modeling! Jp

thanks jp64 and thanks to all those who may be interested in the work.
I also thank all those who created give me advice or ideas or even criticism. I don't see the ship as a historical replica or something comparable, but more as a decorative object. --------------------------------------------------------------- I start with Tarif le transoms or stern garden, I don't know the name in English- I begin by copying the stern or stern garden with great imagination. ----------------------------------------------------- I take from the internet, after various tests, a design that could be suitable for my model (I have nothing but a drawing of the side of the ship) and try to redo it on a cardboard background, creating some ornaments with the same material, in my limit of dexterity. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I then paint the whole section of green, but I realize that the color does not give a good figure. also the green was for the Spanish vessels and mine should become a French vessel. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I don't avedo blue at the moment I try the color again with black and gold or better yellow borders, having nothing else in the house. ----------------------------------------------------------------- glass windows I first try to make them with light green cardboard and drawing stained glass with pen, but then ... I remake the stained glass windows with paper coupled with aluminum foil and draw on them in pen the dividing structures of the glass. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I keep apologizing for my English, but I hope photos can give enough explanations. |

Hi!
Great work on that stern! Looking forward to seeing the gallery on the side of the stern! The color combination turned out very good with that one part in green. One idea for the windows would be to use a slightly thick card for imitating the window grille (the dividing structure) Rgds, Radek

from RdK:

now I try to decorate the transom of the ship.
I'm sure I won't do the rokoko or baroque figures, they are too difficult for me. reading various books from the 1750s, I read that in france as in europe, it was very fashionable "in the good society of the time" to spend time with topics related to supernatural or alchemical factors, in turn linked to geometric designs of fantasy. now I try to decorate the transom of the ship. The ship takes shape,
looks good so far. One tip: Did you paint the edges of the cardboard? It looks like the inner edges of the upper windows are still in the cardboard-grey. In this video you can see it nicely done from minute 3 onward: [Guide] Paper models - Paint mixing, edge coloring, wire painting - YouTube But maybe I just don't see it correctly on the photos... hallo RdK,
your question: Did you paint the edges of the cardboard? answer: they painted themselves, first those and then glue the parts together in the case of difficult surfaces "then" to resume. by combination I do this work in the same way as your film and with almost the same types of colors. thank you so much for advice. ciao ciao marco Last edited by bussolino; 01-16-2021 at 09:17 AM. |
