USS Oakland - Modelik 1/200
Here is my build thread for USS Oakland. I don't have any laser cut parts or barrels for this kit. I've also decided tp paint the entire model minus the decks. The ship has rounded deck edges that is a first for me. I added balsa under the balsa laminated false deck to add support for the edge while sanding and it seems to have worked well enough.
I have started the bridge structure and hope to have the forward half done over this upcoming week. Overall these were a failed design with all of the remaining ships of the class seeing little use post war and rapid decommission following the war. 2 of the 8 were lost in battle. The ship is bristling with small guns, was very topo heavy and unstable but makes for a great looking model. |

I have completed the main guns, funnels, masts, tubes and many of the smaller details, building has slowed with the improved weather.
