Yes, Marco builds them big.
Always great work.

Oh, I do like a good big (ship) model! But I'm not planning anything as big as the SD-14 again.

I'm starting with the bow here:

Looks great Marco. Don't you need to fit your own joining tabs for the bow parts?

How come you prefer to start with the underwater part of the hull?

Regards,
Alan

Yes, but I placed the above-water tabs directly on the frame.

I'm indeed going off-script with the order of building. I prefer to build the underwater part first because I don't want to damage more visible parts above the waterline, and because the waterline comes out neater if the underwater parts are underneath.

Looks great, agreed, always looks more seamless if the underwater plating is installed 1st. Most people look down on the model when viewing so the edge disappears without any aides.

Aha - that’s a great idea about the above water tabs, I’m going to (try to) follow your example with this and the underwater parts too. Sensible!

Have you given any thought to increasing the detailing beyond what’s in the kit? I bought 1:250 rails, deck chairs and anchor chain and will put some rigging where appropriate. Not sure what to do about mooring winches and bollards. Maybe there’s other reasonably do-able upgrades?

Regards,
Alan

Definitely lasercut railings, metal anchor chain and rigging. I'm not a fan of adding deck chairs. Not sure yet if I'll use wooden rods or rolled paper for the winches and bollards. And of course a nice bronze finish on the propellers.

Here is that characteristic stern section:
