Thanks Greg, Rifleman and Mike, your kind comments will sustain me through an afternoon of fixing tiny step irons and spider's web like grab rails to funnel no. 2 - and beyond I hope, as there are two more to do of equal fiddliness!

A great hobby for retirement and lockdowns!

Best wishes

Chris

I'm eager to receive and start mine, it's too bad though they don't have the detail set available anymore, I just hope it wil become availabe again soon (when I'm far enough in the build to need those steps that is )

Hi Dan, GPM still have the detail set available on their website - I got mine and the kit direct from them which was the cheapest and quickest way for me; a good company, they even refunded postage costs in excess of what they had quoted which I've not experienced before.

I would say that you will need the detail set soon after completing the hull; I've found that it's best to add all this stuff as you go along.

Best wishes for your build!

Chris

Chris is right. GPM has those detail sets listed here. Also 3d printed gun barrels, which is too bad they replaced turned brass with plastic, laser cut wooden decks and of course laser cut frames. I don't have this model but it seems SMS GNEISENAU published by GPM and SMS SCHARNHORST released by Dom Bumagi are done by the same author and would be interesting to see if there are any structural differences shown between sisterships.

Ah, I see, that's probably why I didn't find it... looking for the sistership of course... I'll order it next week. After all, at the moment I'm still kind of finishing up my Jupiter 60 build (working on the tracks), if you're interested, you'll find the link in my signature.

SMS Gneisenau; GPM 1/200

Am I unique in having a problem with the GPM website? Every time I go to it I find no correlation whatsoever between the image and the title for every item. Consequently, I am very unwilling to even contemplate making a purchase online because I do not know if what I think I am buying is the same as what I wish to purchase.

Thanks Mike, glad you like the photos; thought of this comment during a particularly trying afternoon yesterday blithering about trying to fix the no. 2 funnel grab rails!

There are a lot of differences between Scharnhorst and Gneisenau which the two kits do appear to accurately reflect, the biggest of which is the well deck aft on the latter; there are also many other minor differences between the two ships which I've found when poring over the few close up photos online e.g. the design of the glazed shelters under the bridge wings and the omission of sidescuttles in the curved areas either side of the foredeck.

Best wishes

Chris
