Thanks,

The next deck is mounted which includes some walls and supports at each end. Eventually I need to decide how to do the railings. The kit has instructions and a jig for making railings from thread but I'm afraid they'll be too flimsy and won't hold shape even with liquid glue or varnish to stiffen them. I might just use old-fashioned paper rails, just a pattern printed on white card.

Take care,
Kurt

San Mateo Looks great.
Laser cut railing is hard to beat.
I think there are quite a few suppliers of it in 1:200 scale.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the suggestion -- I've ordered some railing.

I've seen some of those photos -- Very sad, indeed. And not even an "end", but just sitting there indefinitely as a ruined hulk.

The Kalakala sat for years rusting and falling apart before someone finally arranged to have her dismantled. I saw that the Illahee and her sister ships were towed down to Mexico and broken up there.

But interestingly enough (for me), the Tillikum is still in service.

(These I listed were the ferries I rode as a boy)
Take care,
Kurt

Hello,

Continuing upward on the model, some time ago I had already glued black rectangles over the window cutouts on the top walls before realizing they were meant to be cut out so the kit part (which gives the windows a dark gray appearance) could be pasted from behind the cutouts, giving a more 3-dimensional look.

The kit provides four lifeboats but then says to use only three - two on this side and one on the other side. The lifeboats are each two pieces and went together without problem.

The second photo shows more details added to the top.

Best regards,
Kurt
