looking great, although i am painting mine inside and out, i do like the left alone approach, it does explain some of the details as to what is under the tank tops like oil tanks, that will never be remembered in years to come

More transverse bulkheads. The # 171 was a puzzle and a head scratcher.
It's not obvious from the plans that there are 2 auxiliary pieces that support this bulkhead.
Once figured out it is apparent how they go. See pics.

I have always thought that if the side of the model is left off then lighting is required.
There is no point in looking into a black hole.

Anyway the chip lights arrived today so I went right at it.
They are powered by two AA batteries in a holder.
This will live at the back since I will have to remove the batteries to turn the lights off.
It lights up pretty well for such tiny lights.

And the card itself, what sort of thickness is it?

Thanks I an plodding along. The instructions are interesting. Remember the fireman
were supposed to learn a ship. I think some head scratching was intended to foster
learning. Anyway they are adequate. A lot of the information is on the part sheets
rather that the main document.
Regarding the card it is perfect for this large model. It is slightly rough and 0.011 inch
thick (about 1/4 mm). Don't know the poundage. From other builds it seems to take
paint well. BTW I have used nothing bur UHU glue so far.
Not enough progress to warrant a picture but took one anyway. It shows the probable
position of the battery holder.

The upper box beams are in so that is a good time to take some pictures.
The battery box worked out quite well. It is tucked into a pocket but can be
taken out to insert/remove the batteries. With the lights out it the model really lights up.
I didn't want to mess around with switches.
They are always a pain but how to mount a switch on card? It would just tear out.
Removable batteries work for me.
