Mini subs

It’s been about 10 years since I built a submarine, so time to get to work. Beleaving that I have free will ( a discussion for another time), I chose to build Renova’s Neger. Not being politically correct, this class of boats are now called the Marder in public displays at museums. The model was a free download from the Renova company. All my current links to Renova take me to a design studio so they either changed address or are now out of business.

The build was pretty simple, and took 2 days. Only two inaccuracies I found are that the torpedo is mounted too far forward, and too far away from the hull. I used guitar strings for handrails and beams around the tail. Overall it builds up nicely and is a great conversation starter.

She joins the fleet of CSS Pioneer, the Biber, the Molch, the Hecht, and a couple of Kaitans. Next up is the Seahund, Forelle, and Hunley.,

Nice builds. That said, it’s not a matter of the name “not being politically correct,” it’s a matter of the name used by an fascist regime not being appropriate in the first place and the fact we are now more enlightened.

For everyone's information: The name Neger refers to the inventor, Richard Mohr (in German 'Mohr' is an old fashioned 'polite' term for negro). And by the way: Mohr, or 'moor', referred to dark skinned Arabians: Shakespeare's Othello, or the Moor of Venice, was not a negro - just a man of colour. The name is just a historical fact, nothing political or fascist about it. Criticising history from today's point of view or way of thinking is very easy, and cheap. And by the way: the boat was all black. The Marder was a later development of the neger. Wikipedia and Goodle Images will give you all the necessary information.
It used to be a free download, so I will be pleased to share it.

The slowing rusting hull of one of these is in Alden Park, on the grounds of the old Mare Island Naval base in the SF Bay Area. You can see it outside with Google maps
its across the street from the Mare Island Museum. The museum seems closed at the moment, but this area has several items still on exhibit in the park.

Nice collection of mini subs. I understand the Italians had some mini subs also the CAs and CBs (not to be confused with the Maiale - human torpedos) but I am not aware of any paper models of these.

Matt77 from this website had a couple of Italian mini subs, but all the links seem to be dead. You can see them on his website.

I spotted at least one unusual minisub in this collection: URL REMOVED - CONTAINS COPYRIGHTED/PIRATED MATERIAL

None of my subs are pirated. The CSS Pioneer was purchased from Heinkel, the Hectch, Biber and Molch are purchased GPM kits, and the Kaiten comes from Rocketman over at Divient Art. And the Neger was a free download directly from Renova. The very little sub is Heikel's Pioneer schrunk down to 1/250 scale.

No one said anything about your subs being pirated. The link to a disk for sale on ebay is what was deleted.

I just finished up two different kits of the Seahund. The GPM model (the green camo sub) is better of the two. They join the growing fleet of mini subs.
