The slender railings I got with the kit but I didn't understand the GPM web site notation (in Polish) so didn't buy enough. I think the later, fatter railings were from Gold Medal Models goldmm.com. I think the railings make a huge difference in the appearance of the model.

Hi all,
Some slight progress on the Lex. The large crane is on the starboard side just forward of the "A" 8" mount. Most of the detail of course comes from the photo etch parts but the sides of the boom and the upright are card. Jim Bean |

Thats looking good, detail is very good. Even the blurry pictures look good.

I used to build a lot of sailing ships when I was a kid. My Mom was a seamstress and she had spools of every kind of thread available. You might be able to find some better scale string for that fantastic crane. The whole ship looks absolutely wonderful. You do yourself a disservice by saying it looks like a "first model", I think it's way better than that.
I used to stretch out string between to posts and brush them with liquid crazy glue, it gave the look on rope under tension, and you could bend it for form complicated routes, and it stayed that way. |

Looking great! My "Fly" version of the Saratoga crane has much less detail than the GPM version. Have you got to the upper mainmast yet? I have two sets of parallel "vanes" or booms that face aft and somehow attach to the upper platform. I have no idea how. Perhaps your GPM has better instructions than my Fly.
