Japanese Destroyer 'Kongo'
Just trying to get some builds done, this is a week or 2 of progress (very little time to sit down and 'craft, but getting there).
Here's the gun and bow section: I know the turret is a bit too high on its base, but that can still be fixed.

Next up is the first part of the super structure, right up to the point i finished today:
So far, it has been a fiddly but fun work!

Very nice! I am always happy to see a JMSDF ship taking shape here.
These large, clear photos really show the construction very well and will be exceptionally useful to anyone else trying this or a similar build. Many thanks! Don |

Nice clean build. This model is a really good starter for ship-building.
The site promises an aircraft carrier - no sign of it yet though. Tim |

My future goal on ships is to build the Ise. I like to build strange and unusual paper models... And that one definately qualifies for that. The quality of the photo's is only because i use an expensive camera (Sony DSC-H50), but still learning how to improve them. For example, the shot of the turret has the barrel unfocused...

I'd love to see you do a build of the Ise. Lex also has one under development and has promised more progress this month: A massively overconfident project
With regard to JMSDF ships, I'd like to see a model of the Shirayuki, since my wife and I sailed aboard that ship during the annual JMSDF naval review in 1989. Don |

Nice build. It is very interesting to see how the ship hull is constructed - so different from most ship models.

I agree on that, rmks, though it isn't without problems. The bowdeck for example is curved so you have to squash the edge quite a lot to get it flush, not to mention lining it up properly. But i think mine came out as intended, thanks to some high res images of the real ship's bow.
Still wondering what scale of (proper/payed for) ships i want to go for. I don't have too much room in my apartment and i kinda expected the Kongo to be smaller... I did buy some more tools today, to make things easier: 3 holepunchers (1.0mm, 1.2mm and a swappable one for 1.5 to 4.5mm holes) and a different craft knife.

Right, major setback. Due to 1 tiny tab not being properly attached, i have to start the entire superstructure again... I was working on the small sidewalks/lookouts next to the bridge, but they should be added to parts B4/B5 BEFORE you put parts B4 and B5 on B1. This should give me more clearance and less fiddling with big and ungainly assemblies...
On the other hand, it means making the radar dishes again...

Back at the Kongo. Managed to get past the nasty walkways, even though the starboard one is crooked.
