Hi Chris,

I never use the flashlight, it would throw shadows at the background.
Most of the pictures are taken on the pool table in my hobby room, with neon light above, some are taken in the conservatory.
Next answer will be about ships with underwater hull, there you must use PC programs.

Regards

Hans Gerd

Hi folks,

If you want to shoot a full hull model „in action“, you need a program as Corel PhotoPaint, Photoshop, PhotoImpact or similar.
The easiest way would be to photograph your model in front of a white background, then mask everything that isn`t white, cut it out and import this object into a suitable picture. Because of the rigging and the masts this seldom results in a satisfying result.
I choose a convenient picture, in this example it`s from the book “Schwimmende Bastionen by Bernhard Ireland, copyright by Weltbildverlag GmbH. (picture 1)
Then I deleted the sub with the clone tool and printed the result as a poster; on this I placed the model and took a shot (picture 2). From the original picture I masked the wake and adherent sea, cut it out (picture 3) and imported this into picture 2. You need to adjust position and size of this new object. When done you smooth the edges with a suitable tool, brush or clone. With the smoke you do it the same way.

Regards

Hans Gerd

This is amazing! The aircraft and the 20mm guns are totally life-like.
