Cool worlds biggest cruiseship on the way

just saw that the worlds largest cruise ship is on the way to the carribean
started out with passing under the Öresunds bridge with just decimeters to spare, they have a captains blog on the maiden journey
homepage here Oasis Of The Seas

NOW, how about a model of that one
i hope someone does as it looks very impressive

btw the max sailing height under the bridge is 65 metres, OOTS is 72 metres
how was this solved? by making the exhaustpipes lowering via hydraulics to 64,75metres, and then by passing at high speed thus pressing the ship a little further down into the water

That is frikkin' crazy.

Talk about a lot of eggs in one basket. I watched a documentary on TV about cruise ship upgrading. They split the ship in half and add a piece in the middle. This is just over the top.

This one would be quite impressive at 1:250 or 1:200. We did the inaugural cruise on Freedom of the Seas a couple years ago (that class was Royal Caribbean's largest at the time and I was impressed with the size of it.) This one is off the charts...

To my eyes there is more than a passing resemblance to a block of flats... The actual ship bits are dominated by the accommodation. A magnificent achievement nonetheless.

I saw the QEII 2, or a sister, as she passed Portsmouth (Hampshire, England!) in the summer blotting out the view of the Isle of Wight.

Skating rink is inside - wall is out in the open (but safely over the deck and safety lines are used.) One of the coolest features is the "Flowrider" surfing devices which featue a "river" rapidly flowing upstream that allows a person on a boogie board to actually "surf." It is great as a spectator sport because most passengers don't have the skill to stand up, let alone stay up. Women are advised to wear a t-shirt because of the likelihood of "top loss" on two-piece suits!

The QE2 is in our harbour right now. We had many ships in this year.

I looked them up; the Queen Elizabeth or Queen Mary is only about a third the tonnage of the Oasis! That's an awfully big boat!
